We wanted to share a few more pictures of the splash-tastic fun that kids have been having, inspired by the theme of the TD Summer Reading Club: Splash: Celebrate Summer! Remember, kids up to age 16 can join the Club through the CNIB Library anytime this summer – just fill out this form. There's still lots of summer left, so if you know someone who hasn't joined yet who would like a free accessible kit, contact the Library today!
Toronto District's Day Camp featured lots of activities on the 'Splash!' theme. Lunch-time was story-time! CNIB Library took advantage of a break in the non-stop action to read the story Peg and the Whale to some hungry campers.
Something fishy going on here…blue food coloring mixed into cream cheese and spread onto a celery stalk with goldfish crackers stuck on, made a quick and tasty snack for busy campers!
Who likes stories about dragons? How about stories about boats?
How about….dragon boating! The Library didn't get to tag along for this activity (booo!) but check out this awesome poster the kids made featuring pictures of their adventure and a fire-breathing dragon that (we hope!) was just imaginary.
Sound like something you'd like to try? You may want to check out this book from the TD Summer Reading Club book lists first: Summer of the sea serpent. The CNIB Library has this title in both uncontracted braille and audio (order DAISY CD or access online!).
Campers got crafty when they were challenged to create imaginary tactile sea creatures using materials like sand, feathers, shells and wiki stix. Here's Yaren's creepy crawly creation.
Want to get inspired? Younger kids might like Feely bugs: to touch and feel. For older kids, a craft like this may be only the start! Check out this audio book: Ecology crafts for kids: 50 great ways to make friends with planet earth.
Summer isn't over yet! We'd love to feature the art of kids participating in the TD Summer Reading Club through the CNIB Library from all across Canada. Send your pictures to firstname.lastname@example.org! In our next blog post we'll be featuring some of the book reports and Treasure Hunt answers we've receive so far! Stay tuned…and keep splashing!
