Let me tell you where I have been this summer: in a ski chalet in France during an avalanche, Iceland during World War II, the future United States during a fight to the death, in a small room with a woman and her child, following a journalist's quest to find out about human cells, down south in Louisiana, hanging with shifters and vampires and in England during the murderous reign of Henry VIII. As Dr. Seuss says: "Oh the places you will go." Indeed, especially with a book. And quite frankly, I'm a bit exhausted with all my travelling.
But, you must be envious and wondering, how can I get to all the places you have been?
Let me tell you a secret: Novelist. Yes, I am plugging Novelist. But it seems so easy, and really IT IS and the great thing (amongst many, trust me) is that it is available to ANY CNIB library user! Computer? Check! Password? Check! And, for readers who are not CNIB Library users, many public libraries provide access to Novelist as well.
Novelist is a fantastic place for people who love to read, who seek recommendations or are eager to search for more books on a certain subject. Novelist is a rich database; jam packed with the essential information on authors, titles and genres.
Start with one of your favourite authors, do a quick search, find a comprehensive list of books with synopses, find out more about the genre, tone or writing style of the author. A search for the author Arnaldur Indridason (available from the CNIB Library!) leads me to books by Henning Mankell (also available from the CNIB Library!!) and books with a melancholy tone and whose subject is a murder investigation (I am slowly realizing I have some questionable reading interests...).
Now take this secret, and run to your next adventure with your beach towel and sunscreen in hand. Make sure to check out the CNIB Library catalogue, or our Guide to Finding Books Online as part of your quest for that great next read!
