Has it been a while since your child or young friend or family member used the CNIB Library? We understand that with busy family schedules it's hard to keep up. Here's a reminder about the collection for kids and teens including what's new.
Stories and more…
CNIB Library offers books in uncontracted and contracted braille, DAISY audio CDs and downloadable audio for kids aged 0 through to young adults. The collection includes concept books, classic stories, bestselling books and series, non-fiction for homework help and much more.
We've been listening to comments from parents and teachers and are improving the collection in the following ways:
More, more, and more uncontracted braille books
Whether it's a picture book with braille added (also called printbraille), chapter book or non-fiction book, nearly all new titles suitable for braille will be uncontracted. For teens, most new books will be available in both uncontracted and contracted braille giving readers a choice.
What's the difference between uncontracted and contracted braille? Many beginner braille learners start reading uncontracted braille where one braille symbol represents one letter of the alphabet at a time. Contracted braille contains braille symbols that represent whole words or letter combinations.
CNIB Library books for kids and teens
We are regularly adding new titles to our tactile book collection. These books feature raised images that help develop tactile reading and braille literacy skills. Whether it's learning about household objects, animals, or even the stars, kids can learn by feel about many topics.

Reading what's popular and enjoyed by peers really helps to foster a love for books. Here are some of the more popular series for kids and teens, available in a variety of braille and DAISY formats:

My ten-year-old doesn't want any more picture books!
As kids grow, their reading interests and levels change so make sure they are receiving books just right for them. Contact Reader Services at 1-800-268-8818 or firstname.lastname@example.org to talk to a Reader Advisor about making adjustments to profiles, suggest a book title or provide feedback in general. We love to hear from you!
If you currently have CNIB Library items out, please make sure to return them to us as soon as you are done as someone else may be waiting to read them.
