If you have had your iDevice for a while, you have quickly discovered that the world is indeed available to you, and iTunes is the gatekeeper you use to get all that great content on to your device. There are times this is perfectly fine, such as when you want to download those great apps you've heard about. But what if you just want to add stuff you already have on your Pc, or listen and subscribe to podcasts without going through iTunes? Well, you can indeed do this.
At the next iPhone user group meeting we'll show you how. We'll start with downcast. A terrific podcatcher that allows you to search, listen, and subscribe to podcasts. Want to do some background reading on the downcast podcatcher? Martin Courcelles has written an excellent blog post on this very topic. You can find it at http://blog.cnib.ca/archive/2012/02/16/podcasts-and-other-stories.aspx
Next, we'll show you tune In Radio pro, and last but not least, filer. This is a utility app that allows you to transfer files that already reside on your PC to your iDevice. These files could be word documents, books, text files and so on.
As a bonus, we'll have a device for braille reading technology to show you. It's called TopDot. The best way to describe it is that is like using the optacon though the output under your finger is converted to a braille cell.
Meeting location: 25 Maitland St. one block south of Wellesley on the east side of Yonge st. in the party room.
