This is day five in Coimbra, Portugal. We are still getting over jet-lag, but overall we are feeling strong.
It is beautiful here, the weather is warm and sunny and our hotel is very nice. We have a balcony overlooking the swimming pool and the river that we row on.
Behind the river is a hillside dotted with European-looking buildings and houses (so I'm told lol). I didn't have to wear my blackout goggles on the first day so I did see a little bit and use my imagination for the rest. Yesterday there was an ice-cream barge that came past us; I can't imagine what that looked like!!
On the first day we took a walk into the town, down some narrow cobblestone alleys where there were lots of little shops and cafes. One of the oldest universities in Europe is here as well.
We won't be having a day off here so that is about the extent of what we'll experience in Portugal!
The Irish team is here and we started training with them yesterday. It was really good; they are such nice people and we rowed some really good pieces. We had one row this morning on our own and will train again with them this afternoon.
The volume has decreased so we have about five hours between rows, but that is to be spent resting so we can't really go out exploring and we are not allowed out in the sun so that rules out the pool! Meghan and I brought "Prison Break" with us and we've been watching a couple of episodes a day or reading. I'm trying to find a good audiobook to listen to if anyone has any suggestions!
We leave for London on Thursday, time is flying!
