Welcome to National Volunteer Week 2015 – a time to recognize, celebrate and thank Canada’s volunteers and especially the volunteers we’re lucky to have here at CNIB.
While every day is the right day to say “thank you” to one of our dedicated and passionate volunteers, once a year we set aside a week to recognize, appreciate and acknowledge the important contributions of our volunteers. This year, National Volunteer Week is April 12 to 18.
Why bother? Quite simply, because Volunteers are the heart of CNIB’s vision. From Vision Mates in Nova Scotia to leadership volunteers in British Columbia, great ambassadors and spokes people in the Prairie Provinces, and people who help out throughout our offices in Ontario. We can’t deliver on our mission without the amazing support of the thousands of volunteers across the country.
Volunteers give us so much more than just their time. Volunteers give CNIB:
- Credibility: when volunteers choose to support CNIB it’s an indicator that this is a great organization doing important work; relevant in the community
- Energy: volunteers bring a different kind of energy - almost always positive; they bring passion, perspective and life to the mission that is different from paid staff
- Connections: volunteers expand our reach and bring their personal and professional networks; volunteers can open doors that are sometimes closed to paid staff.
This week, volunteer stories from across the country will be featured right here on our blog. Because more than a big number, volunteers make a big impact – on clients, on staff, and in the community – every day.
Take a minute to read their stories and, most importantly, take a moment to say thank you. Because we really could not do what we do without our wonderful volunteers.
